The Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s Wilder Schools Programme

Wilder Schools Programme

This year, Colorado Class has had the privilege of working with the Suffolk Wildlife Trust to improve our school environment by increasing the biodiversity of plants and animals living within our school grounds.

While the world is facing climate change and a drop in biodiversity, our Engagement Officer, Lauren Mack, has been teaching us what we can do so we can take responsibility, take effective action and make a difference.

Lauren is also showing us how to connect with nature while we are learning outdoors. We are having so much fun discovering new things about animals and plants, as we make improvements to our outside school environment.

We are also learning that being in the outside environment makes us feel good inside. Together with acknowledging the beauty of being at one with nature, the Wilder Schools project has deepened our respect for the world in which we live and, in turn, has improved our wellbeing.

This year, we have also learned about young global climate change activists such as Greta Thunberg and Felix Finkbeiner. It has been an honour to be able support them, by doing our bit to help reduce climate change and improve biodiversity in our own local area.
